Engy Michael

Assoc. AIA, M.Arch

Engy Michael is a creative Architectural Designer lives in Minneapolis, MN, born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, a daughter of an electrical engineer and an E.N.T. surgeon. Engy was instilled early on with a strong work ethic and traditional values. At the age of twelve she was obsessed with math, art and the built environment, and that is when she realized that she wants to become an Architect. Her passion for Architecture grew with her; she worked really hard until she graduated with an honors degree from Ain-Shams University in Cairo where she was appointed later. Her passion for Architecture did not stop at that point, but it pushed her to pursue a professional degree in project management from the American University in Cairo. After graduation she worked for four years at a design firm until she moved to Minnesota, USA in 2008. Engy was involved in several projects including, K-12 public school, public libraries,  resorts, office buildings, commercial retail stores, industrial facilities, hypermarkets and residential compounds, which strengthened her capabilities of handling numerous projects concurrently. What drove her in this field is being able to walk through a project that one day was just an idea.

In 2010, she earned a Master’s Degree in Architecture at the University of Minnesota. While at the University, she has been introduced to a wide variety of conceptual methodologies, learned the basic principles of ecological analysis and environmental design, and honed her graphic skills. In her graduate work, she focused on Architectural Design, Digital Fabrication, and Environmental Design. This became apparent in her thesis work in which she experimented the possibility of creating a multifunctional envelope by integrating structures and skins within the space to accommodate more functions besides load bearing. Engy believes that the reassessment of the envelope with the aid of digital fabrication technologies could create performative spaces that are environmentally responsive to their occupants and aesthetically poetic. In her work, Engy enjoys hands on learning experimentation and takes pride in constructing her work, from construction mock-ups, to laser cutting, 3D printing, and hand sketching. In her free time, Engy can be found wandering with her Nikon D90 exploring the Twin Cities, volunteering with non-profit organizations, or drawing in her small studio in the basement.

Engy is married to Emad Georgy a determined Endodontist who supports and motivates her to follow her passion for architecture and has a 12 year old daughter named Emma.   Engy is aiming to pursue professional growth in the architecture project management and design field. She is looking for a position at a firm that shares her passion to develop and collaborate on high-performing, integrated projects.

Specialties: Project Management, Architectural design, graphics and representation, digital fabrication and photography.
